Finding a Georgia preceptor for your Drexel clinicals

None of Drexel's residency exclusions touch Georgia.

Alabama is the exception next door: Drexel turns away its residents from the NP tracks, the DNP and the RN-to-BSN. The Columbus metro crosses the Chattahoochee into Alabama, while Augusta's reaches South Carolina, which is open.

Georgia's Board of Nursing (it sits within the Secretary of State's office) neither approves nor oversees post-licensure education, and that includes APRN programs. An RN-to-BSN, MSN or NP program from another state can therefore place students in Georgia without asking the Board. Prelicensure is a different world: the Board says no out-of-state or online prelicensure program is currently approved for Georgia clinicals. Every Drexel student this page concerns is already an RN, so that closure doesn't touch you.

• Yours. If you live in Georgia and study elsewhere, your clinical hours there require Georgia licensure or another compact state's multistate license. Drexel's compliance page accepts a home-state compact license in place of Pennsylvania's; its program pages still ask for Pennsylvania. See the license page.
• Your preceptor's and your faculty's. Anyone teaching or working with you in Georgia, face to face or electronically, falls under the same license rule. That can reach Drexel's clinical faculty, so ask your track director how Drexel covers it.
• Who instructs. For post-licensure APRN programs, the Board says clinical instruction must come from a nurse holding APRN authorization in Georgia.

AANP rates Georgia restricted: a physician must delegate to or supervise each NP, and Schedule II prescribing is capped. Drexel lets physicians in approved specialties precept alongside NPs and CNMs, but Georgia's statement on APRN clinical instruction points toward nurses with Georgia APRN authorization. An NP or CNM who holds it satisfies both, so start there. If your strongest lead is a physician, ask Drexel how that fits Georgia's wording before the paperwork starts. Physician assistants aren't on Drexel's list in any state; the rest of Drexel's criteria are on preceptor requirements.

Georgia's PTIP (Preceptor Tax Incentive Program) grants a state tax credit to Georgia-licensed physicians, dentists, APRNs and PAs for unpaid teaching in community settings. Augusta University's AHEC reports that HB 144 revised and extended it: APRNs earn a credit per 160-hour rotation, up to ten rotations a year, under a statewide annual cap, and preceptors must register every year starting in 2026. The revenue department's own page hasn't caught up; it still lists the prior terms, covering taxable years ending by December 31, 2026, and neither page gives a new end date.

Drexel describes no payment to preceptors, which suits the uncompensated condition, and its WHNP courses, NURS 690 through NURS 693, run 160 hours apiece. Whether teaching a student from a Pennsylvania school qualifies isn't settled in the sources reviewed, so a preceptor should check with AHEC before counting on the credit.

The Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell metro dwarfs the others; Augusta, Savannah and Columbus follow. Large Georgia systems include Emory Healthcare, Grady Health System, Piedmont Healthcare, Wellstar Health System and Northside Hospital, each of which would sign its own agreement with Drexel. Outside Atlanta, clinicians are scattered, and Drexel says students may need to travel.
