Drexel compliance training: HIPAA, BioRAFT, CITI and child abuse reporting

Drexel's Training Modules page lists four trainings and where each one runs. Your program's checklist decides which of them you complete and by when.

Drexel describes its typical compliance package as including training modules alongside screenings, immunizations and required documentation, and each program sets its own due dates. Certificates go into your CastleBranch profile with the rest of your clinical compliance items, where the Clinical Compliance team checks them before clearing you for a term.

Drexel runs its own HIPAA Privacy and Security training on its webcampus site. As the name says, it deals with patient privacy and the security of health information, which every clinical site expects students to protect from the first day of a rotation.

BioRAFT is Drexel's safety training platform, formerly known as Safety Training and Health Online Training. Drexel's list doesn't name the specific BioRAFT courses NP students take, so follow the assignment your compliance coordinator gives you and save each completion certificate.

Both modules need an active Drexel email account. That makes them good early tasks: do them once your Drexel account is working, rather than leaving them for the weeks before the clinical term. Drexel lists its own HIPAA course, so check with the compliance team before substituting an employer's certificate, and expect a site to add its own privacy training during onboarding.

CITI training, including its Health Information Privacy & Security course, is on Drexel's list for students engaged in research. An NP student focused on clinical courses may never be in that group, while a student who joins a faculty research project will be.

Post-master's DNP students should ask early. The DNP scholarly project runs through NUPR 782, NUPR 783 and NUPR 788, and Drexel says it can draw on your current workplace. Whether your project counts as research, and so needs CITI before you start collecting anything, is a question for your DNP faculty rather than something to guess.

If CITI does apply, keep its certificate with your other training records and upload it wherever your checklist asks. The practicum side of the DNP is on the post-master's DNP page.

Drexel lists Pennsylvania's Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training for Mandated Reporters, delivered through the University of Pittsburgh's reportabusepa site. It's separate from the child abuse clearance: the clearance checks your own history, while the training teaches you to recognize and report suspected abuse.

It also points ahead to licensure. Pennsylvania requires at least three hours of approved child abuse recognition and reporting training for CRNP certification, plus two hours at each renewal. The Board doesn't say students must take it; Drexel puts it on the list anyway, and it's directly relevant if you plan to practice in Pennsylvania.

Keep the certificate. If you later apply for Pennsylvania CRNP certification, check with the Board whether a course you took as a student counts toward the licensure requirement. The Board's wider rules for NP students are on Pennsylvania NP clinical rules.

Clinical sites can add modules or attestations of their own during onboarding. Penn State Health, for example, has NP students sign an attestation to its nurse practitioner student clinical practicum policy, and systems that onboard through Clinician Nexus, myClinicalExchange or InPlace collect their own requirements inside those platforms.

Treat site training as a second checklist with its own deadline. Lehigh Valley Health Network, for instance, wants student documents at least two weeks before the rotation, so a site module left to the final week can push back your start. When a site confirms you, ask for its onboarding list, finish anything it adds, and keep those certificates beside your Drexel ones.
