Massachusetts clinicals for Drexel NP students

No Drexel exclusion list names Massachusetts. Residents can pursue NP tracks and certificates as well as the DNP and RN-to-BSN, and can train in-state once licensing and approvals line up. For the AGPCNP certificate, the 640 hours belong in Massachusetts or Pennsylvania.

The legislature enacted the compact in November 2024, but the Board regards it as dormant until implementation wraps up. It won conditional sign-off for FBI background checks in May 2026 and has set May 2027 as its goal. For now, a nurse holding another state's multistate license has no right to practice on it in Massachusetts.

That changes the plan for Drexel students. Drexel's compliance page wants its own RN license for every clinical state beyond the compact, and for now Massachusetts is one of them. The rule at 244 CMR 6.03(2) gives the Board a say over clinical learning that schools from other states run in Massachusetts, in two parts. Part A, approving the parent institution, is due annually and six months or more ahead of the first placement. Part B covers each placement and is due 30 days or more before the start, and no one starts until the Board's approval letter is in hand. Late changes need two weeks' notice, and the Board expects word of a change within seven days.

Those criteria are framed around schools that prepare people to sit the NCLEX, and the Board's page is silent on graduate and APRN programs. Whether Part A and Part B reach a Drexel NP placement is a question for Clinical Compliance and Drexel's state authorization office (sara@drexel.edu) before you commit to a Massachusetts site.

AANP counts Massachusetts as full practice, reached after a two-year supervised stretch under a qualifying APRN or physician; equivalent experience may earn an exemption. A preceptor you approach may be inside that stretch or past it.

Drexel's published criteria turn on other things: whether the preceptor is a nurse practitioner, a midwife with CNM certification or a physician in a specialty Drexel accepts, plus current board certification, a Massachusetts license and a year in practice. Greater Boston holds roughly 4.6 million of the state's residents; Worcester, Springfield and the Massachusetts part of greater Providence account for much of the remainder. Systems students approach include Baystate Health, Beth Israel Lahey Health, Boston Medical Center, UMass Memorial Health and Mass General Brigham. Every one has its own intake rules, and none showed a Drexel link in research. No Massachusetts preceptor incentive turned up in research.
