Canvas and DrexelOne: where Drexel clinical course information lives

The provost's office set the schedule in a January 12, 2026 announcement titled “Drexel Is Moving to Canvas,” with further updates through the year. For a student starting clinicals now, the practical upshot is simple: expect your clinical courses to be in Canvas.

Some Drexel Online pages haven't caught up yet. The online student tools page still links to Blackboard and Drexel Learn, and the page explaining how online learning works still tells students they'll use Blackboard. Where those pages and the provost's dates disagree, go with the provost and your course emails.

Canvas lives at canvas.drexel.edu, with a direct address at drexel.instructure.com, and Drexel says it will be fully integrated with DrexelOne and the Banner student information system. DrexelOne, at one.drexel.edu, is Drexel's one-stop portal for personal, academic, financial and career information, reached through the DrexelConnect sign-in with your Drexel account.

Inside DrexelOne you'll find course registration, billing, academic advising and BannerWeb records such as grades and schedules. It's also the route to Medicat, the university immunization portal, through the Health and Wellness Resources channel.

Canvas problems go to Drexel's IT Group at itg@drexel.edu, the support address in the provost's announcement. Questions about a course's content or clinical expectations belong with your faculty, and anything about your clinical clearance goes to the compliance team. Knowing which door to knock on saves days in a ten-week quarter.

Drexel spreads clinical work across several systems, each with one job. This is the map as Drexel's public pages describe it:

Drexel's clinical courses run the didactic course and the rotation concurrently, so Canvas carries the weekly class side of each clinical course; AGACNP students, for example, meet online for three hours once a week. The tools themselves are covered on CastleBranch, E*Value and Dragon Network.

The one piece Drexel's public pages leave unsettled is where site and preceptor paperwork goes now. Back in 2016–17, a Drexel clinical handbook written for Advanced Role (non-NP) MSN students had them upload their placement worksheet and the preceptor's CV to a Clinical Paperwork shell in Blackboard Learn, and posted Cleared for Clinical notices there.

No current NP clinical handbook is public, and Drexel hasn't said whether that kind of shell has moved to Canvas or been replaced by another route, such as email to the compliance team. With almost every course already in Canvas and Blackboard going read-only at the end of 2026, don't assume the old route still applies.

If you started at Drexel before Fall 2026, some earlier courses may still sit in Drexel Learn. Courses in the Blackboard Learn Original format lock into read-only mode when 2026 ends, and Drexel's announcements describe that access without saying how long it lasts, so save copies of anything you'll want later: syllabi, course outlines and your own submissions.

Syllabi matter for clinicals beyond the course itself. Some health systems want course objectives and syllabi with a placement request; CHOP, for instance, asks the school's clinical site coordinator to send them with its graduate request form. Keep a folder of current clinical syllabi from Canvas ready for any site that asks, and label each by course number and term. A tidy set of syllabi also helps if you transfer between quarter and semester courses and need to show what a course covered.

Canvas settles in a year before Drexel's other big change. From Fall 2027 Drexel runs semesters, and clinical courses take new numbers: the FNP sequence, for example, becomes NURS 7600, NURS 7601, NURS 7602 and NURS 7604 in place of the quarter courses NURS 534 to NURS 538.

Expect course shells under the new numbers, and check course names carefully in your first semester, especially if you're partway through a sequence during Summer 2027, a one-time seven-week transition term running June 21 to August 7, 2027. Hours for each semester course aren't in the 2027–28 catalog, so ask your faculty how the new courses map onto the hours you still need. The semester conversion page covers what to confirm.
